Press conferences at

Bede's Grammar School

Since 2018, when we started with the radio project, we opened a press confereces section every 30/45 days.

We invite people who are relevant in today's world for their personal or professional lives, to talk to the Radio and Journalism students.

The pupils have to investigate about the interviewee, prepare questions, demonstrate thay they have done a survey, and do a practical work after attending the conference. They should pretend that they are interviewers sent by Bede's Live radio to the talk and then summarize what is most important for our audience.

This dynamic requires skills such as gathering and classifying data, and questioning and cross-examination techniques. It is based on students' prior knowledge; we add content and work on a report in a radial format. Sometimes, students are asked to include a fragment of the original audio, with the implementation of technological resources. The final work reveals the path followed and the deep understanding acquired.

Each student in particular is assessed on their weaknesses and strengths. Participating in Radio produces a significant change in those students who are more introverted and represents a wonderful challenge for those who have more barriers to speaking in English. It focuses on developing fluency and confidence with the second language.

As with each program, children receive feedback on their performance and suggestions to improve the work. Many times, we introduce a question to trigger others that could motivate a reflection. We use self, peer and teacher's assessment.
